A merger between Yahoo! and Microsoft would be the worst thing that Yahoo! could ever do. There is no benefit to Yahoo! other than a temporarily higher stock price.
The important question to ask is what does Microsoft have to offer Yahoo! other than it's money?
The answer is very simple absolutely NOTHING! Microsoft services are all redundant to those of Yahoo! and worst of all not one Internet service Microsoft offers supersedes those of Yahoo!. A Microsoft control of Yahoo! would be like a drunken man driving a race car... NOT GOOD!
Yahoo! is still the most visited web property in the world and will remain for years to come. I have been involved in the Internet game since the early 1990's and have often seen what mergers have done to some of the best Internet properties... Kill A Name!
A Yahoo! bid acceptance would kill the strongest Internet property in the world.
You may ask how Yahoo! is the strongest Internet company in the world? Simple, it is happening now, Google has a tremendous cash flow due to their high stock price but like everything else in this world "Anything that goes up must come down" and when it does it sometimes spills disaster. An ever so decline in Google stock will dry up it's growth and like human nature not "Google nature", the free gourmet meals will be no longer.
With a much needed reorganization Yahoo! could meet stockholders obligations within 6 months. Yahoo! accepting the Microsoft offer would be the worst thing since Terry Semel taking over Yahoo!.
2008 is the year Yahoo! could reinvent itself into into the greatest company on the Internet, but this will only occur without the "innovators" of the Vista operating system.
